Version 4 Now Available

HRS 1996 Core (Final Release, Version 4.0)

Version 4 of the 1996 HRS Core Final Data Release is now available. This version incorporates a number of minor changes.

  • Some variables previously included in the respondent-level coversheet file are now provided in a household-level coversheet file instead. A number of other variables were added. See Comparison of Variables in Versions 1, 2, 3, and 4 for more information.
  • The codebook includes assignment statements and additional user notes that document how values were assigned for variables created by the data collection program.
  • The Data Description document includes SPSS examples in the Examples of Merging section.
