Three user notes were not included in the 2000 HRS Core (Final Release) codebook dated Wed Oct 23 12:03:52 EDT 2002. They are listed below. These user notes are included in the current codebook.

        User note:  Warning -- this variable has a default value of '2000' if not assigned a value from

        G4080     GH0B.YEAR LEFT LAST JOB

        User note:  Warning -- this variable has a default value of '2000' if not assigned a value from

        variable does not contain the OPN of the household member or child if the household member or
        child is away at at institution or away at an other place and was not previously reported.

        User note:  This variable contains the OPN of the household member or child if a) this is the
        first interview and the household member or child is now a resident, or away in an institution
        or other place, or b) the household member or child was not a resident at the previous
        interview and is now a resident, or away in an institution or other place.  Follow-up
        questions, D048, were only asked about these household members or children.

        G1973     CHILD OPN 3-DIGIT LOOP

        User note:  This variable contains the OPN of the household member or child if the household
        member or child or the spouse of the household member or child is a resident, away in an
        institution, away at an other place, or a non-resident.  This variable does not contain the
        OPN of the household member or child if a) the OPN is not in the range of 051 to 499 or 501
        to 998 or b) the Q480:CS0Y25.WHICH HH is '2'.

        User note:  This variable contains the OPN of the household member or child if a) the
        household member or child is a resident, away in an institution, away at an other place, or a
        non-resident, or b) if the household member or child is dead and the spouse of the household
        member or child is a resident, away in an institution, away at an other place, or a non-resident.

        G1987_1   D03BS.WHICH CHILD MARRIAGE CHANGE through G1987_5   D03BS.WHICH CHILD MARRIAGE CHANGE

        User note:  If one or more of the respondent's children had a marital status change, these
        variables contain a) the child, if the respondent has only one child, b) the child or children
        mentioned in D03a, c)   all the children with whom the respondent has contact, if the answer to
        D03a was 'ALL MY CHILDREN'.  The response of G1987_1 corresponds to those in G1988001 to G1988004,
        that in G1987_2 to those in G1988005 to G1988008, that in G1987_3 to those in G1988009 to G1988012,
        that in G1987_4 to those in G19880013 to G1988016, and that in G1987_5 to those in G1988017 to
        G1988020.

        Up to twenty responses were allowed for this question, the actual maximum number of responses was
        five.

        G1991_1   D04BS.D04A WHICH CHILD through G1991_5   D04BS.D04A WHICH CHILD

        User note:  If the respondent had any new grandchildren, these variables contain a) the child, if
        the respondent has only one child, b) the child or children mentioned in D04a, or c) all the
        children with whom the respondent has contact, if the answer to D04a was 'ALL MY CHILDREN'.  The
        responses of G1991_1 to G1991_5 correspond, respectively, to those in G1992_1 to G1992_5 .

        Up to thirty-eight responses were allowed for this question, the actual maximum number of responses
        was five.

    Section: D            Level: Sibling

        G2216     D132S.OPN SIB/SIB-IN-LAW LOOP

        User note:  This variable contains the OPN of the sibling or sibling-in-law if the sibling or
        sibling-in-law died since the previous interview.

        G2219     D133S.OPN SIB/SIB-IN-LAW LOOP

        User note:  This variable contains the OPN of the sibling or sibling-in-law unless the sibling or
        sibling-in-law is dead or has no contact with the respondent.

        G2226     D137S.NEW OPN SIB/SIB-IN-LAW LOOP

        User note:  This variable contains the OPN of the sibling or sibling-in-law about whom more
        detailed questions is asked.  These questions are asked about up to four siblings or
        siblings-in-law.  If the interview is a reinterview, the questions are asked about previously
        randomly selected siblings or siblings-in-law unless the sibling or sibling-in-law is now dead
        or now has no contact with the respondent.  If the interview is not a reinterview, the siblings
        or siblings-in-law are randomly selected from siblings or siblings-in-law who are alive and
        with whom the respondent has contact.

    Section: E            Level: Helper

        G2557     HELPERS.OPN LOOP

        User note:  This variable contains the OPN of the helper if the helper is listed in the
        household-member/child grid.

        G2943     E158.HELPER WHO LOOP

        User note:  This variable contains the OPN of the helper -- it is identical to OPN.
